If you’re looking tired, eye bags and tear troughs may be to blame. Restore a youthful appearance to your peepers with Cambridge Medical Group’s EYE REVO ™ treatment.
Most people understand eye bags to be a result of protrusion or “sagging” of the pad of fat under the eye because of thinning skin and tissue laxity – which often surface with age. However, pseudo eye bags – the more insidious cousin of the real ones – can have an equally ageing effect on your appearance.
Seen in women as young as 25, pseudo eye bags, as the name suggests, aren’t actually caused by bulging pockets of fat under the eyes. On the contrary, they result from a loss of fat in the under-eye area, causing a deep crease between the nose and the lower eyelid, also known as the tear trough. A shadow forms along the tear trough, resulting in what looks like under-eye circles or eye bags. Furthermore, tear troughs tend to exaggerate the appearance of existing eye bags. [1]
Thus far, hyaluronic acid (HA) filler injections have been the go-to treatment for addressing pseudo eye bags. HA is known to bind water 1000 times of its own volume. In the skin, HA helps maintain tissue elasticity and hydration. [2] Although effective, fillers may exacerbate the appearance of eye bags slightly, and the results wear off in about nine months.
Dr Lee Mun Heng, who helms Cambridge Medical Group, tackles the tired look caused by tear troughs and eye bags with a procedure called EYE REVO.
Conceived by a Korean dermatologist, this innovative treatment combines tried-and-tested techniques with current medical technology. Using a round-tip cannula (a needle that is not sharp) for improved safety, comfort and reduced risk of blood-vessel damage, a material called Poly-L-lactic acid – believed to stimulate the production of collagen – is administered to the target area to bolster support for tissues around the upper cheek. The technique is performed under local anaesthesia and needs fewer needle punctures to achieve the desired result.
Over the next few days after the treatment, the Poly-L-lactic acid is said to encourage the body’s own fibroblast cells to manufacture natural collagen.
Besides stimulating collagen production, this treatment also uses radio-frequency technology to help tighten the tissues holding the fat pads within the eye bags.
"Radio frequency is a proven method for causing collagen contraction and skin tightening. It works in combination with and enhances the effect of targeted and accurate placement of Poly-L-lactic acid. As the area is ‘filled’ by new collagen made by your own body, it will feel natural to the touch,” explains Dr Lee.
