Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Skinboosters

Is your skin looking dull, dehydrated, or lacking its youthful glow? As we age, our skin naturally loses its radiance and elasticity. Environmental stress, sun damage, and natural ageing can lead to dryness, firmness loss, and fine lines development.

Skinboosters can help restore a refreshed complexion by improving the skin's structure from within. There are two main types of Skinboosters: HA (Hyaluronic Acid) Skinboosters, which deeply hydrate and plump the skin, and Non-HA Skinboosters, which stimulate collagen production to enhance texture and firmness.

What are HA Skinboosters

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that plays a vital role in maintaining hydration, elasticity, and skin health. However, as we age, the body's production of HA begins to decline, typically starting in the 20s and continuing to diminish over time. This reduction leads to dryness, loss of skin firmness, and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

HA Skinboosters are designed to address these concerns by replenishing HA directly into the skin. Unlike dermal fillers, which are primarily used to add volume and contour, HA Skinboosters work to hydrate and enhance overall skin quality. Administered through micro-injections, they deliver moisture and nutrients to revitalise the skin from within.

How Do HA Skinboosters Work?

HA Skinboosters are injected into the skin in small doses beneath the surface. They act as a water reservoir, retaining moisture and restoring hydration levels. This enhances skin elasticity, smoothness, and texture.

HA Skinboosters:

  • Enhance skin hydration, elasticity and smoothness
  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines and crepiness
  • Restore a natural glow and plumpness to the skin

Areas Treated with HA Skinboosters

Common areas for HA Skinboosters include:

  • Face, to improve texture and hydration
  • Neck, to reduce crepiness (skin that appears thin, finely wrinkled, and similar in texture to crepe paper) and fine lines
  • Hands, to restore smoothness and youthfulness

HA Skinboosters are a treatment designed to enhance skin hydration and texture. Enhancing skin smoothness and elasticity helps support a refreshed and healthier appearance.

Non-HA Skinboosters

Apart from HA skin boosters, you can also find skin rejuvenation injections containing peptides, amino acids, vitamins, or collagen-stimulating agents. These collagen-stimulating injections usually focus on improving skin quality, firmness, and texture through skin regeneration instead of hydration.

Non-HA skin boosters improve skin quality by stimulating collagen production and promoting regeneration. These treatments typically contain peptides, amino acids, and vitamins that enhance skin firmness, elasticity, and overall texture.

HA and Non-HA Skinboosters

At Cambridge Medical Group, our doctors will help you find a suitable treatment for your skin. However, you may also find it helpful to know the different types of skin boosters available, which can help you achieve your desired goals.

Broadly, skinboosters fall into two categories: HA skinboosters and Non-HA skinboosters.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Skinboosters

As mentioned, HA skinboosters are derived from a naturally occurring substance in the body. This remarkable compound provides several benefits for skin health:

  • Hydration: HA can retain water and hold up to six litres of water per quarter-teaspoon, helping keep skin well-hydrated.
  • Elasticity: HA supports skin elasticity by replenishing hydration levels, contributing to smooth, firmer skin.
  • Volume: When injected into the skin, HA skin boosters help restore lost volume and plumpness, improving the appearance of fine lines and dull skin.

With these properties, HA skin boosters are an option for subtly and naturally addressing hydration loss or volume concerns.

The safety profile of HA skin boosters makes them a great choice for first-time users. They are generally well-tolerated, and if the results don't meet expectations, they can be adjusted or dissolved using hyaluronidase (an enzyme), offering added reassurance.

Non-Hyaluronic Acid (Non-HA) Skinboosters

Another option for skin rejuvenation is non-HA skin boosters, which commonly use peptides, amino acids, vitamins, and other regenerative compounds. These ingredients stimulate collagen production over time to improve skin structure and firmness.

A key advantage of non-HA skin boosters is their ability to encourage skin regeneration, focusing on improving skin quality, texture, and elasticity. However, unlike HA skin boosters, they cannot be reversed, making them suitable for individuals aiming for long-term collagen-stimulating treatments and structural support.

HA and Non-HA skinboosters offer benefits and can be tailored to address individual skin concerns.

Treatment Process

When opting for a skin booster treatment, you must schedule an initial appointment. Our aesthetic doctors will analyse your skin condition and discuss your skin goals. Based on this evaluation, our doctors will be able to suggest a suitable treatment tailored to your skin’s unique needs.

During the procedure

Before starting the treatment, you will be given a numbing cream on the treatment areas. This is to help minimise the discomfort you may feel during injections.

After 15-30 minutes, your doctor may start administering injections to target areas at varying layers of the skin, depending on your intended outcome and the skin booster used. The whole process should not last more than 30-60 minutes; however, this may depend on your treatment plan.

After the procedure

Once done, you should be able to return to your daily activities with minimal side effects, such as redness or mild swelling. Often, these side effects go away on their own in one to three days after the treatment. Your doctor can also provide you with aftercare tips to ensure a smooth recovery.

You will be required to avoid direct sun exposure and harsh skincare products or makeup immediately after treatments.
