What are eye bags?

Bags under the eyes or commonly called eye bags is the mild swelling or puffiness under the eyes. As we age, our eye tissues and some muscles supporting our eyelids weaken. Due to the weakening of the eye tissues and muscles, some fats that supports the eyes move down into the lower eyelids causing the puffy appearance of the eyelids. Accumulation of fluid in the space between our eyes also adds up to the swelling.

What causes eye bags?

What are the types of eye bags?

Eyebags can be classified into 3 types:

• Type 1: less prominent; only mild fat is accumulated around the eye
• Type 2: more prominent than Type 1 and more noticeable; accumulated fat under the eyelids can cause small semi-circles, affecting a person’s appearance
• Type 3: the most prominent eye bag type; large accumulation of fats under the eyes can cause large semi-circles resulting in a swollen or droopy look.

When do eye bags require treatment?

Having eye bags is rarely a serious medical condition and treatments (aside from remedies at home) are usually done for cosmetic reasons. What is Fotona Laser Eyebag Removal?

Fotona Laser Eyebag Removal is a new and improved non-surgical method for eye bag removal. It uses two different 4D lasers to administer treatment –

• a laser that stimulates collagen production and contraction of the fat pads and
• a gentle laser that facilitates skin resurfacing and tightening of the eyelids.

The general procedure for this treatment is the use of advanced laser technology for skin tightening and reduction of fine lines around the eye region, thereby getting rid of or reducing the bags under the eyes.

What can I expect during the procedure?

Prior to the procedure, a topical numbing cream is applied. To protect the eyes, an eye shield similar to a contact lens is also required. During the procedure, the deeper layers of the skin will be heated by the lasers at 42 – 45°C. The Fotona Laser works on the inside of your under the eyelid to reduce the targeted fat below the under eyelid from the inside. This way, fat from the lower eyelid can be reduced without making any cuts or wounds (as in done in surgery). This heating will also stimulate collagen production. Collagen is an essential protein in the body particularly in the skin and regenerating them will give results such as a firm and tightened skin in the eyes.
