Dark Eye Circles

Dark Eye Circle Removal

What are dark eye circles?

Dark eye circles under the eyelids are a common presenting complaint in many. However, some may confuse the presence of an eye bag with dark eye circles. That is not to say that a patient may present with both eye bag and dark eye circles, compounding the problem. The degree of discolouration in dark eye circles may look purple, blue, dark brown, or black depending on skin colour and also lighting. Though they do not indicate serious health problems, people wish to get rid of them because dark eye circles make people feel they look older, tired, and sickly.

What causes dark eye circles?

1. Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation caused by increased production of melanin in the eyelids is one of the causes that may lead to darkening of the lower eyelids. Though it can happen to anyone, there are some risk factors for having dark circles under the eyes such as:

  • Allergies – individuals who suffer from allergies like atopic eczema, allergic rhinitis. Some individuals can also suffer from dermatitis of the eyelids leading to the hyperpigmentation from repeated inflammation of the eyelid skin.
  • Thin lower eyelid skin – the eyelid is a very thin structure with very thin epidermis and dermis. This makes the underlying muscle (orbicularis oculi muscle) visible in some individuals. A visible cascade of veins overlying the muscle also contributes to the discolouration when light is reflected.
  • Genetics – Individuals with an under eyelid fold, called a ‘Dennie–Morgan’ fold can sometimes also present with dark eye rings.

2. Fatigue

Oversleeping, extreme fatigue, or always staying up past your normal bedtime can cause your skin to become dull and pale. This is a hormonal reaction to stress on the body when the adrenal gland copes by secreting corticosteroids. This may stimulate the melanocytes to make excess pigmentation that pigment the eyelid skin leading to dark eye rings.

3. Eye Strain

Staring at your computer screens, televisions, and mobile devices can cause significant strain in the eyes.

4 Dehydration

When the body does not have a proper amount of water, the skin beneath the eyes look dull and the eyes appear to sunken because of the close proximity of the underlying bone. This resulting light shadowing may give the impression of dark eye rings.

5. Sun overexposure

This can trigger the body to produce melanin, the pigment that gives colour to the skin. Too much sun exposure can cause dark, especially around the eye area.

PDRN Healer® I (Eye)

What is PDRN Healer® I?

PDRN Healer® I (Eye) consists of Polynucleotides (PN), a newer and more concentrated type of PDRN, with anti-inflammatory and tissue repair-stimulating agents, and DNA Polymers for long-lasting skin healing and collagen stimulation. PDRN Healer® I is a smoother formula compared to the PDRN Healer Skinboosters, and is specially formulated for the thinner delicate skin around the eyes.

How is the procedure carried out?

Prior to the procedure, topical numbing cream will be applied to make the process comfortable and painless. PDRN Healer® I will then be delivered into the undereye via precise micro injections.

This has anti-inflammatory effects through the clearing of free radicals and blockage of inflammatory cytokines in the body which reduces puffiness in the eyes and improves the appearance of dark circles.

How are Dark Eye Circles with Eyebags removed at Cambridge Medical?

In the pursuit of addressing this concern, many methods - both natural and medically prescribed- are being tried by people. One popular procedure for dark eye circle removal is being done at Cambridge Medical Group. our signature service is the non-surgical eye bag removal treatment called EYE REVO.

What is EYE REVO?

EYE REVO™ originated in Korea and has now been widely used in Singapore. This method is efficient in reducing eye wrinkles and dark eye circles - with the advantage of not undergoing any surgery. This procedure is considered “scarless” since it has no risk of leaving scars behind.

How is the EYE REVO™ procedure done?

EYE REVO™ is administered only with the use of topical anaesthesia which is applied before the procedure is performed. EYE REVO™ makes use of a “micro-needle” best described to be as fine as mosquito sting. This micro-needle emits a radiofrequency that can precisely target the fats needed to be removed between the skin of the under-eye lid. The procedure can be done in under 20 minutes.

Pico 450 Laser

What is Pico 450 Laser?

The PICO Laser is a ultra-fast (450 picoseconds) high energy laser. This works by directing laser energy into the skin which is absorbed by the pigments. It effectively shatters the pigments into smaller more manageable fragments. This damage to the pigmentation triggers the body's immune response and begins the removal of these broken pigments. This will help reduce the intensity of dark circles.

How is the Pico 450 Laser Procedure done?

The Pico laser used emits the shots of lasers at the targeted area. This is done at a significantly faster pace generating a photoacoustic shock wave that will shatter pigments into minute fragments with expert precision. This will help reduce the intensity of dark circles.
