Carbon Laser Peel

Carbon Laser Peel

A carbon laser peel is a type of non-invasive facial peel that seeks to deeply exfoliate the skin. It can help unclog pores, shrink pores, as well as stimulate collagen growth. It is sometimes known as the “charcoal facial” or “China doll peel” due to the porcelain-like finish it gives the skin.

How a Carbon Laser Peel works

A carbon laser peel works by applying a layer of carbon to the skin and allowing your skin to absorb it slowly into the various layers of the skin. After absorption, a doctor will use a laser and focus it onto the layer of carbon on your skin. By destroying the layer of carbon with the laser, any form of debris clogging up your pores will be destroyed along with it, unclogging your skin and leaving it smooth and healthy.

What are the benefits of Carbon Laser Peels?

Benefits of carbon laser peels include:

  • Helping to even out your skin tone
  • Removal of blackheads
  • Stimulation of collagen production
  • Tightening and shrinking of pores
  • Giving a nice porcelain-like finish to the skin

Am I a good candidate for carbon laser peels?

Anyone looking to address issues with acne, oily skin, clogged pores or pigmentation is a good candidate for carbon laser peels. The carbon isn’t harsh on the skin and is generally low-risk. Carbon is an extremely good absorber of impurities and thus it works well for people who are afflicted by such problems.

Is a carbon laser peel painful? Is there any downtime?

There is very little pain associated with carbon laser peels, with no anaesthesia required. Patients commonly report a warm and slightly stinging sensation when the doctor is using the laser.

There is little to no downtime and you should be able to resume activities immediately after the procedure. However, the immediate aftereffects of the laser could include some skin redness, swelling and itching. These effects generally resolve by themselves in a few hours without the need for any aftercare measures.

In general, your doctor will want you to avoid exposure to direct sunlight or to exercise too vigorously for around 24 to 48 hours after the procedure.

How long do the effects last?

The effects of carbon laser peels are long lasting, but skin conditions may return. It is generally advised for patients to get carbon laser peels twice a year for optimal results.
