What is Rejuran Healer?

There has been a lot of talk about Rejuran Healer or rather 婴儿针. Most clinics promote it as a general anti-aging agent and collagen stimulator for acne scar treatment. However, a lesser know and often overlooked application for Rejuran Healer is in the control of pigmentation problems like Melasma and PIH (Post-Inflammatory Pigmentation).

In short, Rejuran Healer is a product that consists of DNA material called PN Polynucleotide extracted from Salmon eggs. The fascinating properties of Rejuran Healer include the promotion of healing, reduction in inflammation, stimulation of collagen production and reduction in pigment production amongst others.

Treating Melasma and PIH Pigmentation without Rejuran

I see patients daily who present with different types of pigmentation.

Common types of include

  • Solar lentigines are freckles or large sun spots.
  • PIH, or Post inflammatory pigmentation are most difficult to treat pigment caused by some damage to the skin from previous laser treatments, acne scarring, chemical peels gone wrong and so forth.
  • Melasma is a very common presentation in the Asian female population and is made worse UV (Sun exposure), Stress, exposure to pollution, hormonal imbalance to name a few. It is very persistent and is considered a chronic condition which requires regular maintenance.

Some of today’s popularised machine based treatments include the Q-Switch Nd Yag 1064nm & 532nm laser, Nitrogen Plasma Treatment, Alexandrite Laser, Yellow 577nm Laser, Thullium 1927nm Fractional Laser, Carbon Dioxide Fractional Laser (Long downtime), Chemical Peeling (not so popular) and Topical Treatments which include agents (Fullerene (Antioxidant), Vitamin C/Ascorbic Acid (Antioxidant), Glycolic acid (Exfoliant), Arbutin (pigment production suppressant), Hydroquinone (pigment production suppressant) (I avoid this), Retinoic Acid and retinoids (Multi mechanism)) that help with increase skin turn over to eradicate pigmented epidermal tissue, pigment production suppressants and antioxidants.

Needless to say, there are Pros and Cons to all treatments. I personally avoid of the above in my medical practise because of side effects on a case by case basis.

How does Rejuran Healer alleviate Pigmentation?

Rejuran Healer has been shown in clinical studies to reduce pigment production right at the cellular level. In a clinical study conducted by Dr S E Chang et al in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, proteins related to genes involved in pigment production were down-regulated.

This study opened up an entirely new area of therapeutic function for Rejuran in addition to anti-aging and collagen production. We now have at our disposal, an option to combat Pigmentation and Melasma at the cellular level.

Can Rejuran Healer be combined with Lasers and Plasma treatment?

My patients currently on Pico Laser or BB Laser are being stepped up to a combination treatment with Rejuran Healer and have seen good results. Not only does it help with their pigmentation, it also provides for a clearer, smoother complexion. Pore and acne scars also improve at the same time. Some patients note a ‘Dewy Shine’.

What to expect during a Rejuran Healer treatment session.

It’s actually a simple 4 step procedure with little downtime.

STEP 1 - Clean and Disinfect the Skin

STEP 2 - Apply topical numb cream

STEP 3 - Introduce the Rejuran Healer evenly throughout

STEP 4 - Apply Antibiotic cream

I usually provide a calming, soap-free wash for the next 3-4 days. My patients go home with an antibiotic cream that they will apply after washing for the next few days. Some patients do return to work immediately after the procedure. We advise that they refrain from make-up for 24-48 hours.
